Welcome to the Nikon Imaging Center at UC San Diego

The Nikon Imaging Center is a light microscopy core facility which serves UC San Diego and beyond. We host five multi-functional imaging systems. Together, they offer the following imaging modalities: brightfield, color (RGB), differential interference contrast (DIC), laser scanning confocal imaging, micropatterning, photo activation and stimulation, spinning disk confocal imaging, spectral imaging, stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM), structured illumination microscopy (SIM), total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) imaging, and widefield fluorescence imaging.

Adapted booking and usage procedure

  1. Do not enter the center if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 infection (cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste/smell).
  2. Each time when you use the center, you must have completed the daily COVID-19 symptom screening process before arriving to campus.
  3. Please contact Eric to book your time so that he can ensure that a maximum of two users are present in Room 471.
  4. You must wipe down all of the surfaces that you touch with EtOH prior to and after imaging (keyboard, mouse, joystick, microscope fronts, oculars, door handles, light switches). A spray bottle of EtOH and wipes are available in Leichtag Building Rooms 470 and 471.
  5. There is hand sanitizer in the front of Room 470. Please use it as you enter. There is a hand washing sink in Room 471, please use it as you enter.
  6. You must keep a covering over your mouth and nose during your time in either scope room.
