    Peng Guo, Ph.D.

Dr. Peng Guo is the Director of the Nikon Imaging Center at UC San Diego. Dr. Guo received his B.S. in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China and his Ph.D. in Biophysics from Emory University in Atlanta with Professor Keith Berland. Dr. Guo worked as a postdoctoral fellow and imaging core facility manager under the mentorship of Dr. Gary Bassell in the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease at Emory University. Dr. Guo was Co-Director of Light Microscopy and Image Analysis at the Analytical Imaging Facility at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City from 2011 to 2020 under the mentorship of Dr. John Condeelis and Dr. Robert H. Singer. He was Director of Cellular Imaging Shared Resources at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle following that. He was a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy and Structural Biology and Gruss Lipper Biophotonics Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and co-investigator on several R01s. Dr. Guo is committed to advancing science through microscopy and continuing to build a microscopy facility that supports biomedical research at the cutting edge.
  • Richard Sánchez, Ph.D.

    Richard Sánchez, Ph.D.

Dr. Richard Sánchez is the Nikon Imaging Center (NIC) postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Sánchez earned his B.S. in Pharmacology from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). He earned his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) studying the epigenetics of temporal lobe epilepsy in Dr. Farah Lubin’s lab. Dr. Sánchez began his postdoctoral work at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) with Dr. Gulcin Pekkurnaz where he is probing mitochondrial ER contact sites (MERCS) regulation through a metabolic sensor. His postdoctoral work exposed him to a variety of imaging modalities from confocal, widefield, spinning disk confocal microscopy, and electron microscopy. Dr. Sánchez joins the NIC in the summer of 2023. His goal is to help support and build the microscopy facility at UCSD while continuing his postdoctoral research.

Oversight Committee:

Professor Samara Reck-Peterson is the faculty director of the Nikon imaging center, and the oversight committee includes Professors Jin Zhang, Cornelis Murre, Arshad Desai, and Don Cleveland.
We hope NIC will be a knowledge resource for microscopy users across the entire UCSD campus and beyond.
